Mike Foran was a military son whose father served a career in the Marine Corps. He was born in Washington, DC and growing up lived in many locations including Virginia, Tennessee, California, Florida, North Carolina and Iowa. After his father’s retirement, he had a service station/garage where Mike worked, changing oil and tires. Mike followed the family tradition and joined the Marine Corps after graduating from Campbell College with a degree in Social Science in 1967. He met Carole while stationed at Quantico, VA in 1968 and they were soon married. Mike was a transportation company commander when he was in Vietnam. Carole attended James Madison College and later attended Georgia State University where she was graduated Cum Laude in 1992 with a degree in Social Services, which is the field she worked in for the next 19 years, retiring in 2012. After Mike’s military service ended in March 1971, he worked for the FAA as a contracting officer and later as the Manager, Logistics Division and when he retired in 2006 he was the Manager, Emergency Preparedness Staff. Back in 1968, Mike and Carole towed his grandmother’s 1928 Tudor Model A from Iowa to Jacksonville, NC. Somewhere in Illinois, he developed a bubble in one of the A’s tires and stopped at a gas station. Miraculously, the owner had two tires and tubes which he installed and the journey was able to continue. In 1995 Mike brought the car to Peachtree City where it sat for several years in a garage, but was finally restored in 2009 back to its original condition, including the paint color, by Bentley Bohanan. Carole and Mike have two married sons and four grandchildren, 3 girls and 1 boy. Both Carole and Mike enjoy the camaraderie of the SSA’s and the wonderful tours.
